Since 2000, at least 142 people have died in campus-related fires. Here is a chance for students, parents, fire officials and fire safety advocates to make a difference for campus fire safety by working with Congress.

We held our fourth annual Capitol Hill Day on March 22 and it was great! We had 33 people from across the nation travel to DC and we met with 60 Congressional offices. Just the week before, in preparation for this event, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Congressman Bill Pascrell introduced the Campus Fire Safety Education Act of 2011 and a resolution in the Senate that recognizes September as National Campus Fire Safety Month.

What was great about this year was the diversity of representation we had...students, parents, fire officials and advocates from Ohio, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Virginia and Michigan took part.

We will definitely be doing it again in 2012, so stand by for more information!
